In a bright white room, a teacher once drew a single black dot on the center of a large, clean sheet of paper and asked the students, “What do you see?”
Every student eagerly responded, “A black dot.”
No one mentioned the vast white space that surrounded it.
This simple exercise reveals a powerful truth about human perception we often focus on the flaw, the mistake, the one thing that’s wrong, and overlook the abundance of what’s right. The black dot becomes the center of our attention, overshadowing everything else.
In life, the black dot could be a past failure, a scar, a regret, or an imperfection. But should it define the entire canvas of our lives? Absolutely not.
We all have black dots, moments of pain, setbacks, wrong choices. But we also have joy, love, growth, lessons, and countless blessings. Yet we choose to zoom in on the dot, forgetting the beauty of the rest of the page.
Shift your focus. Seethe whole picture.
Acknowledge the black dot, but don’t let it blind you to the light around it.
Because life is bigger than the dot. It’s a masterpiece in progress.
